CONSERVATIVES NEED NEW LEADERS Continued #3...
By the way, it’s helpful to know that just because a conservative is famous, well known, or popular, doesn’t make them a conservative leader.
Most people confuse leaders with spokesmen. One is not better than the other; it’s that they do different things. Both are important and needed.
A spokesman identifies a problem then articulates it via radio, TV, speeches, articles, books, videos, blogs, podcasts, etc.
A leader presents A VISION, SETS GOALS, DEVELOPS STRATEGY, and IDENTIFIES PROJECTS AND TACTICS to achieve the goals.
They call meetings, attend meetings, they’re bold, boldness always boldness, they read. As Morton Blackwell says, “All leaders are readers, but not all readers are leaders.” Leaders regularly step out from their comfort zone to be out-front.
Another serious problem for conservatives is that 95% of our time, resources, energy, is spent “cussing” Democrats, their polices, and programs.
It’s OK to spend energy, resources, time, etc., complaining about the Left, but also devote time to reading, learning, strategizing, working, and focusing on how to win.
A few years ago, I was in a meeting with about 20 conservative leaders, and at the end of the meeting I brought up this subject, that we spend almost all our time complaining about the Left, but very little on how to win. After the meeting, one of the leaders came up to me and made an interesting comment. She said, “Probably most liberal meetings start with how to win, but conservatives may at the end of a meeting spend a few minutes on the subject and quickly forget about it and move on to complaining about the Democrats.”
The Conservative Movement is in desperate need of leaders who focus on strategy, plans, projects, activities that will defeat our enemies, bring conservatives victories at the national, state, and local levels, leading to a “rebirth” of freedom and liberty under God’s laws.
Remember, we’re in a spiritual civil war launched by our enemies.
As I said earlier, there’s no shortage of money, but there is a shortage of entrepreneurial, risk-taking leadership to save America and Western Civilization.
Recently I’ve been at several meetings of conservatives, each with 400-500 attendees. It’s very refreshing and encouraging when so many of you tell me how much you benefit from my memos. And as we talk, it’s obvious you’ve carefully read and digested my message. I leave with a heightened feeling that there are many grassroots leaders who are focused on saving America and Western Civilization.
