Someone was needed to get to work and clean up the mess at FEMA and President Trump and DHS Secretary Kristi Noem made the right choice in trusting no nonsense, quietly competent Cameron Hamilton to transform FEMA.
Cameron Hamilton, a Navy SEAL and combat medic, (and our friend and candidate for Congress in Virginia’s 7th District) has avoided the spotlight and focused on getting aid to the people who needed it, where they needed it.
But he started with two crucial personnel decisions:
Firing the corrupt Democrat officials responsible for financing NYC migrant hotel stays with federal tax dollars.
Firing the corrupt Democrat officials involved in carrying out directives to avoid houses with Trump signs in disaster-stricken areas.

In much the same way as the border crisis needed only a new president to rectify the mess Biden and the Democrats created, FEMA needed only a new president and a new leader to deliver on the government’s promises to disaster victims. Joining President Trump in western North Carolina less than a week after the Inauguration, 80% of outstanding cases in flood-affected areas of North Carolina were addressed within five days of new acting administrator Cameron Hamilton taking the helm.
FEMA success by the numbers as of February 7th, 2025, the latest published data:
2,596 households are currently staying in FEMA-paid hotels; 10,648 have checked out.
3,284 households have received rental assistance.
150 households are currently living in FEMA-provided temporary housing units.
18,000 households have received money to make basic repairs to a damaged primary home.
5,000 households have received funds to repair private roads and bridges.
106,000 FEMA inspections have been issued to assess damage to primary residences.
138,000 homes have been visited by FEMA Disaster Survivor Assistance crews.
66,000 people have visited a Disaster Recovery Center.
1,800 households have been provided with three years of flood insurance, paid for by FEMA.
Having FEMA host ten in-person resource fairs in disaster-affected areas in Georgia, bringing help directly to the communities that need it

Examples of Hamilton’s low key, but effective management style include speaking directly with families in western North Carolina impacted by Helene, meeting in-person with survivors of flooding in Florida, and being on the ground working with local leaders to inform citizens in the aftermath of the Palisades Fire.
Hamilton’s exceptional work has earned praise throughout Congress. Even some members who have criticized President Trump in the past have recognized the effectiveness and professionalism Hamilton brought to a FEMA which languished in politicized mediocrity under Biden-Mayorkas. Other representatives have also offered praise, such as Tim Moore (R-NC), Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL), and Eli Crane (R-AZ)).
To that end, legislation has been introduced, in both the House and Senate, to separate FEMA from the Department of Homeland Security allowing it to act more quickly and efficiently in service of disaster victims across America. If passed, the Administrator would report directly to President Trump.
- “FEMA has become overly-bureaucratic, overly-politicized, overly-inefficient, and substantial change is needed to best serve the American people,” said Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL), candidate for Governor of Florida. “When disaster strikes, quick and effective action must be the standard — not the exception. It is imperative that FEMA is removed from the bureaucratic labyrinth of DHS and instead is designated to report directly to the president of the United States.”
