“I have introduced articles of impeachment against President Trump,” Thanedar said according to reporting by The Hill. “When Trump ignores the Constitution, Congress, and the courts, he is not ‘fighting for America.’ He is tearing it down and endangering our democracy.”
Thanedar said he was introducing seven articles of impeachment against Trump for various actions, including the deportation of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, the man mistakenly sent to El Salvador, and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) cutting funds without congressional approval.
“Donald Trump has already done real damage to our democracy, but defying a unanimous 9-0 Supreme Court ruling, that has to be the one final straw,” Thanedar said, referencing a decision on the Abrego Garcia case. “It’s time we impeach Donald J. Trump.”
Thanedar said among Trump’s impeachable actions were his steep tariff agenda impacting global markets, his treatment of reporters and the First Amendment, his bribery and corruption in the justice system, and his obtaining of Americans’ personal data.
“Article seven, tyrannical overreach,” Thanedar said. “Finally, and most importantly, he is attempting to consolidate unchecked power and erode the constitutional limits of the presidency,” Thanedar said.
“In this country, we have presidents, not kings. That’s not just misconduct. It’s impeachable misconduct,” he continued.
“If we let this stand, we are saying the president is above the law. That the United States Constitution is optional,” Thanedar said. “I won’t be silent and I’m calling on all my colleagues, Democrats, Republicans and independents, to stand up with me.”
“Enough is enough. Donald J. Trump must be impeached,” he concluded.
Despite existing for only a few days, the impeachment has already lost support from three of its four original co-sponsors. Democrat Reps. Kweisi Mfume of Maryland, Robin Kelly of Illinois, and Jerry Nadler of New York have all asked for their names to be removed, leaving only Far Left socialist Democrat Jan Schakowsky in support of the resolution.
For his part President Trump went on the attack against Rep. Thanedar during his rally at Macomb Community College, just outside Thanedar’s Michigan district.
According to reporting by Detroit’s FOX 2 TV, "They did it again. Some guy that I never heard of, (hey) John James, is he a congressman?" Trump said, asking Michigan GOP Rep. John James. "This guy, he said, he said, ladies and gentlemen, I am going to start the impeachment of Donald Trump. What the hell did I do?"
"Here we go again. They want to impeach me, this lunatic This lunatic is up, actually, I had the television way down. And I said to our great first lady, listen, did I just hear I was being impeached again?" Trump said. "We're getting good at this though."
Trump then attacked the leadership of the Democrat Party with nods to Thanedar and Texas Rep. Al Green who was kicked out of Trump's address to Congress in March.
"They've gone totally crazy, these people. And you know what? They've totally lost their confidence. They can't even tell a lunatic like this dumb guy that said, it," he said. "And then you have the other one that's always with the cane. He's always impeaching, and he raises his cane. He always embraces. But they have no control over those people. They have no control. And the reason is they've lost their confidence. They have no confidence anymore as a party. They have no candidates."
President Trump is right, and that vacuum has allowed shady characters like Thanedar to become the faces of the Democratic Party.
