Tarrant County Young Democrats (TCYD) issued a statement on April 25th that helpfully frames an issue that is becoming a defining voting issue in not just that Texas county or even the state as a whole, but across America.
The TCYD statement condemns the creation of a Sharia-Free Texas Caucus in the State House of Representatives in Austin and defends more generally the Islamic political-military-legal system called sharia.
As our friend Frank Gaffney pointed out in a widely circulated “Letter to the Red-Green Axis,” its content can only be described as utterly ignorant about sharia or willfully deceptive. Either way, it offers a basis for candidates for public office this fall to make clear where they stand with respect to sharia and those who seek to impose it in the United States of America.

Such statements are without foundation. As is made clear in the authoritative rendering of sharia in English, The Reliance of the Traveler, sharia is a very uniform and fixed legal code.
While there are different sects in Islam, their authorities agree on the fundamentals of sharia, including that that doctrine commands every Muslim to engage in, underwrite or otherwise facilitate jihad, i.e., holy war, to achieve global domination. This unalterable goal is to be pursued wherever possible – in accordance with the personal behavior and injunctions of the so-called “Perfect Man,” namely the Prophet Mohammad – through terrifying violence, and only where that is impracticable, stealthily.
In short, sharia is an absolutely totalitarian ideology with a patina of religiosity. It is antithetical to the U.S. Constitution and American values. It is also inherently seditious as it requires the overthrow of our government.
While there are surely Muslims who do not engage in such behavior or support it, Islam’s authorities and faithful adherents have a term for them: apostates. And, under sharia, apostacy is a capital offense. Consequently, we rarely hear from such Muslims and to portray their views as representative of sharia is both wrong and blasphemy – another capital offense under sharia.
The clear purpose of the Tarrant County Young Democrats’ statement is to whitewash sharia and promote submission to it. Such efforts are profoundly dangerous for freedom and those who prize it.
Fortunately, the battle-lines are now drawn in Texas and increasingly elsewhere in America. On March 3rd, 1.9 million Texans voted for Proposition 10 on the Republican primary ballot: “Texas should prohibit sharia law.” The Sharia-Free Texas Caucus, like the federal Sharia-Free America Caucus in the U.S. Congress, is offering an accurate depiction of the utterly unconstitutional character of sharia and working to prevent its insinuation here.
And candidates for every elective office in Texas and the rest of the country are being asked to make clear where they stand by signing a Sharia-Free Pledge. It simply says: “I pledge to the citizens of my district and the American people that I will oppose any and all efforts to impose sharia law on them.”
This should not be a partisan proposition. Anyone who would faithfully swear an oath committing to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies foreign and domestic should have no reservation about pledging to prevent sharia’s imposition here.
Those on the Left who are throwing in with sharia-supremacists in what is known as the “Red-Green axis” are on notice: They will not be allowed to get away with lying to the American people about their seditious agenda and every effort will be made to ensure their ambition and candidates who share it are overwhelmingly repudiated at the polls this November.
