The Trump Administration has made it clear: ANTIFA terrorists and their networks will be investigated, disrupted, prosecuted, and neutralized with the full force of federal law. There will be no safe harbor for those who attack law enforcement, obstruct lawful immigration enforcement, or wage campaigns of political violence against the American people. During a news conference Tuesday, Minnesota U.S. Attorney Daniel N. Rosen said the monthslong investigation had focused on members and associates of two activist groups that had "violently opposed the enforcement of federal law." He characterized the groups as "ANTIFA," an umbrella term for a diffuse movement of militant left-wing activists. Twelve people were arrested Tuesday, two remained at large and one is already in custody, Rosen added. Information about their attorneys was not immediately available. These 15 individuals were “members or associates” of Direct Action Minnesota (DAMN), a left-wing coalition of protest groups that played a role in the "surveillance, operational planning and rapid mobilization against law enforcement," Rosen said according to reporting by PBS. “DAMN also trains its members in the use of shields against law enforcement, surveillance, event planning, role differentiation, and rapid mass mobilization against ICE enforcement actions,” the indictment reads, referring to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Rosen said during a press conference that some of the 15 people self-identified as antifa, and that 12 of them have been arrested. When asked by reporters to define antifa, Rosen said federal authorities “have plenty of people that self-identify in that way and you might want to ask them that.” U.S. Attorney Rosen continued, “whether or not they actually, at the end of the day, cause bodily harm is not the measure of whether or not they committed a serious federal crime.” The arrests come as the Trump administration has escalated its crackdown on members of "ANTIFA," which it has designated as a domestic terror group and directed federal agencies to "investigate, disrupt, and dismantle" its affiliates and funders. |
