Virginia voters go to the ballot box today to decide whether to approve a radical partisan redraw of congressional district lines that could decide who controls the U.S. House next year.
According to research by the Committee to Unleash Prosperity’s Hotline, the Left has poured more than $64 million - all but 3% was raised OUT of state - into the "Vote Yes" campaign. This is triple the level of spending by the Right.
The big hypocrite in this fight is Barack Obama, who has consistently warned against the evils of gerrymandering, but now openly campaigns for it. The “vote no” ad below uses Obama’s past statement against the steal.
Democratic Northern Virginia U.S. Rep. Don Beyer admits “even though this seems unfair in Virginia, it's totally fair for America…to stop Donald Trump."
Now you know why the Left doesn’t mind illegal voting, noted our friend Steve Moore in the Hotline article.
Democrats want to pick up to four seats by replacing existing district lines drawn by a bipartisan commission. The new map spreads the overwhelmingly liberal Northern Virginia suburban vote throughout the state to move four Republican-leaning congressional seats across the aisle into the hands of the other party. The maps below show how Republicans would be squeezed into one district.
Democrats claim this is only a temporary measure and that, in time, the process will return to an independent commission. But when do politicians voluntarily give power back once they’ve taken it? George Washington did, and that’s exactly why he’s remembered as one of the greatest Americans to ever live.
Let’s be honest: no one in Richmond today is George Washington.
Virginia Democrats, including Governor Spanberger, campaigned on governing from the center, assuring voters they would not follow the path of states like California or New York. Yet their legislative agenda tells a very different story. Instead of easing the burden on families, Democrat lawmakers in Richmond have proposed a wide range of new taxes, attacked the constitutional rights of gun owners, and shut out parents from having a say in their children’s education.
That’s not moderation. It’s a bait-and-switch. THAT’S NOT FAIR – THAT’S LYING.
And now we’re supposed to believe that this redistricting overhaul is a temporary, good-faith effort? Virginians aren’t naïve, and they certainly aren’t blind to how power works. Members of Congress already suffer from some of the lowest approval ratings of any institution in America, yet we’re being asked to trust these same people to act FAIRLY.
They think people won’t notice or won’t push back. They’re wrong.
Here’s what you can still do today to defeat this radical scheme:
And if you don’t live in Virginia, you can still help by:
This vote is about more than lines on a map. It’s about whether the rules still apply equally to everyone, or whether those in power can rewrite them when it suits their interests.
SEND THE VIRGINIA DEMOCRATS A MESSAGE: It’s simply not FAIR to RIG the election rules to gerrymander and give the 46% of Virginians who vote Republican only 9% of the congressmen.
