The weekend “peace negotiations” brokered by Pakistan between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran ended in apparent failure, with both delegations leaving Islamabad without a deal.
But honestly, that result was a foregone conclusion as long as the United States is “negotiating” with the Islamic Republic.
The simple fact of the matter is that the entire reason for the existence of the Islamic Republic of Iran, as expressed in Khomeinism and Absolute Wilayat al-Faqih, is to fight the United States, Israel and the West to export Shia “Twelver” Islam.
It’s in their constitution and underpins the entire focus of the State. Without fighting non-believers, the Islamic Republic of Iran has no reason to exist.
The preamble the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran says the purpose of the Islamic Republic is to bring the entire world under Islam and Islamic law:
What’s more, the constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran specifically states the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic Are "An Ideological Army” and their purpose is not defense, but offense:
Similar to the old Soviet Union, and other totalitarian revolutionary movements, instead of investing its vast oil wealth and human capital in improving the lives of its citizens, to export its revolution, the Islamic Republic poured billions into weapons that consumed its economy, but produced no tangible benefits for its citizenry.
The problem is our enemy is not the Iranian people; we are fighting the ideology of the Islamic Republic. The Shi’ite doctrine enshrined in the Islamic Republic’s Constitution demands that Iran act to hasten the return of the Twelfth Imam by fighting nonbelievers, particularly the United States and Israel.
They understand us better than we understand them and they believe America is uniquely unsuited to fighting what is in reality a religious war. War and chaos are necessary preconditions for the return of the Twelfth Imam, so let’s define “winning.”
For the Islamic Republic’s current leaders, personal survival and the survival of the Islamic Republic and its revolution defines winning. Exporting their revolution and hastening the return of the Twelfth Imam are what matters to them, not the economic success or quality of life for the average Iranian, so they have no intention of giving up their nuclear weapons program or their offensive missile capability because those are the reasons for the existence of the Islamic State.
The only measure of success in any war is defeating your enemy’s ideology and thereby destroying the enemy’s will to fight. So far, despite our brilliant tactical success in Operation Epic Fury, if our war goals are an end to Iran’s nuclear weapons program and the end of Iran’s war against the West, we are not even close to winning because our leaders have not defeated or even seriously attacked the Islamic Republic’s ideology of Khomeinism and Absolute Wilayat al-Faqih and until we attack it and defeat it our long-term success is in doubt.

The preamble the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran says the purpose of the Islamic Republic is to bring the entire world under Islam and Islamic law:
With respect to the Islamic content of the Iranian Revolution, which was a movement for the victory of all the oppressed people over their oppressors, the constitution prepares the ground for continuing this revolution at home and abroad. Specifically, it strives to expand international relations with other Islamic movements and people in order to pave the way for the formation of a single, universal community, in accordance with the Qur’anic verse, “Verily, this Brotherhood of yours is a single Brotherhood, and I am your Lord and Cherisher: therefore Serve Me (and no other)” (21: 92).
What’s more, the constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran specifically states the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic Are "An Ideological Army” and their purpose is not defense, but offense:
In establishing and equipping the defense forces of the country, the focus shall be on maintaining ideology and faith as the foundation and the measure. Consequently, the Army of the Islamic Republic and the Islamic Pasdaran Revolutionary Corps are formed in accordance with the aforementioned objective. They will undertake the responsibility of not only guarding and protecting the borders, but also the weight of ideological mission, i.e. striving ( jehād) on the path of God and struggle on the path of expanding the sovereignty of the law of God in the world; in accordance with the Qur’anic verse: “Against them make ready your strength to the utmost of your power, including steeds of war, to strike terror into (the hearts of) the enemies, of Allah and your enemies” (8: 60).
