New Poll: 61% See Iran War as Successful


The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 61% of Likely U.S. Voters say that, based on what they know, the military operation against Iran has been successful so far, including 35% who consider it Very Successful. Twenty-nine percent (29%) don’t consider the Iran war successful so far, including 12% who see it as Not At All Successful. Eleven percent (11%) are not sure. 

Eighty-one percent (81%) of Republicans, 45% of Democrats and 56% of unaffiliated voters say the military operation against Iran so far has been at least somewhat successful.

The ongoing U.S. war against Iran is viewed as a success by most voters, although many have doubts about America’s military alliance with Israel.

The U.S. and Israel jointly launched attacks against Iran on February 28. Forty-four percent (44%) of voters believe the U.S. military alliance with Israel is good for America, but 36% say it’s not good for America, and 20% are not sure.

Other polls reflect similar questions about the US – Israel alliance.



Eighty-one percent (81%) have been closely following news reports about the war against Iran, including 49% who’ve been following the news Very Closely. Seventeen percent (17%) haven’t closely followed news about the Iran war. Among those who have been Very Closely following news reports about the war against Iran, 66% believe the military operation against Iran so far has been at least somewhat successful.

Just nine percent (9%) think Iran is America’s biggest enemy. Twenty-five percent (25%) consider China the biggest enemy and 16% view Russia as the biggest enemy. Others are more concerned about domestic enemies – 16% say Republican voters are America’s biggest enemy and 13% believe Democratic voters are the biggest enemy.

Twenty-four percent (24%) of both Republicans and Democrats view the other party’s voters as America’s biggest enemy. Voters unaffiliated with either major party are more likely to consider the biggest enemy to be Republican voters (17%) than Democratic voters (10%).

Thirty-two percent (32%) of Republicans, 18% of Democrats and 26% of unaffiliated voters believe China is America’s biggest enemy, while 23% of Democrats, 11% of Republicans and 14% of unaffiliated voters view Russia as the biggest enemy.

Seventy percent (70%) of Republicans, 26% of Democrats and 38% of unaffiliated voters believe the U.S. military alliance with Israel is good for America.

There is not much of a “gender gap” on these questions, with just slightly more men (62%) than women voters (59%) viewing the military operation against Iran as successful.

Majorities of every racial category – 62% of whites, 53% of black voters, 59% of Hispanics and 62% of other minorities – think the military operation against Iran so far has been at least somewhat successful. Black voters are least likely to say the U.S. military alliance with Israel is good for America.

Voters under 30 are least likely to view the military operation against Iran as successful, while older voters are more likely to consider the U.S.-Israel military alliance to be good for America.

Among those who voted for Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election, 83% believe the military operation against Iran has been successful so far, but only 40% of Kamala Harris voters share that belief.

The survey of 1,098 U.S. Likely Voters was conducted on March 8-10, 2026 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence.
