SAVE America Act Gets A Majority In The Senate, And Still Fails

Last night, during the Senate’s “vote-a-rama” on the reconciliation bill, principled limited government constitutional conservative Republican Senator Mike Lee of Utah offered the House-passed version of the SAVE America Act election integrity bill as an amendment to the reconciliation bill.

Senator Lee’s amendment garnered 51 votes, later pared-back to 50 votes when RINO Senator Thom Tillis switched his vote, versus 49 against, meaning it received the necessary simple majority necessary to pass. And it would be in the bill, but for Senate Majority Leader John Thune’s seditious refusal to require Democrats to actually engage in a talking filibuster to stop it.

So, once more the SAVE America Act died on the Senate Floor, killed by a Democrat Zombie Filibuster and Thune’s feckless refusal to actually fight the Democrats on an issue that is supported by around 80% of voters.

Trump allies warn the bill is a top concern of voters this election year and every avenue must be used to pass it.

“If we don’t get it done or at least do everything we possibly can to try to get it passed, I think there is a very significant risk that our own base doesn’t show up for us in November,” said Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah), a leading proponent of the bill.

“We also worry about the integrity and security of our elections. Nobody knows exactly how things will pan out in part because we don’t yet know the extent of the problem,” he said, referring to the prospect of noncitizens voting in the midterm elections.

“What we do know is that in states that have started reviewing the voter registration files in order to weed out those [ineligible people] who might have registered, perhaps inadvertently… already there have been thousands of voter registration files identified in just the handful of states doing their own reviews,” Lee said.

Senator Mike Lee also noted that Democratic-led states are not reviewing their voter files and “refusing even to share their voter registration files with federal officials … which begs the question, why?”

The SAVE America Act is about three simple, common-sense protections:

  •        Proof of citizenship to register to vote
  •        Voter ID to cast a ballot
  •        Clean, accurate voter rolls

That’s it. Fair. Secure. Transparent. And yet—it’s being blocked. The tipping point comes when the pressure is too strong to ignore. When citizens across the country speak with one voice and demand action.
